Horseback Riding in the South

Jus and I went horseback riding through a friend’s finca this weekend.  My horse was great, but Justin was a little too large for his horse – I think it might have actually been a donkey.  His feet pretty much dragged the entire ride and I am almost certain that I heard the horse give a sigh of relief when Justin eventually dismounted.  Nevertheless, we had a great time riding.  It was a gorgeous day as we meandered through riverbeds and checked out mango, banana, papaya, and orange trees.  We were treated to an awesome lunch of chicken, rice and homemade tortillas afterwards.  Pretty much a great day, all around…

Patriots 19-0! Super Bowl Champs…in San Gregorio, Nicaragua

The New England Patriots won the Super Bowl and ended the season with a perfect 19-0 record — at least it looks that way in Nicaragua.  The NFL donated 290 Patriots hats and an equal number of team jerseys trumpeting the slogans “Super Bowl Champions, 19-0” to impoverished children from two small communities in southern Nicaragua.  During a recent drive back from Managua, Justin and Zach scouted out the location of the hats and tee, drove thru San Gregorio, and quickly enlisted some local agents (shown in pics) to help them buy a few hats and t-shirts in an attempt to rewite history.  All benefited as the guys came away with a little piece of history, while making a small donation to the community of San Gregorio.

Backpacks for School Children

Justin and I went to a local San Juan elementary school and helped to distribute backpacks full of school supplies (360 – which we packed the previous weekend) and enjoyed interacting with the kids who ranged in age from 3-14. All of the supplies were donations from Morgan’s Rock, as well as guests who stay at the hotel – a program initiated by Gladis, our friend who manages the hotel.

Here’s a clip of us on Monday morning, helping distribute the backpacks and school supplies.
